A very backwards Cowboy Joe Day at Camp Timberlake.
A very backwards Cowboy Joe Day at Camp Timberlake.
Good evening from Camp Timberlake families! Today was a very special day here at camp, as we took on one of our favorite specialty days at camp, Cowboy Joe Day, during this day all things are backwards, including our meals, our activities and even chapel!
The morning started very different today, we all slept in until 8am instead of 7am, which felt quite nice to get an extra hour of rest. But then the peace and silence was broken by staff raiding all the cabins and handing out breakfast for all the campers! So we were all able to have breakfast in our cabins which was very exciting. After breakfast we cleaned our cabins for the race of the golden plunger and did devotions in the morning! Then, since all is backwards we headed to the Mark for our Tribal game, which today was… Battle ball! This is 100% a camp favorite game. We held four games, two for junior/intermediate camp and another two for senior camp. Arthur S. had some amazing highlights as he got both final outs in battle ball to win the games in the junior/intermediate games.
After this adrenaline-packed game, we all moved on to our fourth periods in which Elliot S from Finch’s landing was so happy to finish his bronze rocket and can’t wait to launch it on Saturday. While that was going on, Charlie H. got two bronze groupings in riflery and Sawyer S. and Sawyer P. got their bronzes in fitness!
While all this was going on at camp, there was three groups of boys going out for an expedition, McKean K, Kenny C, Churchill C, Charlie A, and David F. all left today for their two night backpacking Man Trip in which they will test their wilderness skills. The second adventure trip today was a kayaking trip to the Catawba river, in which Reed P, Peter K, Jude V, Tobias C, Logan D, and Wyatt B. tested their kayaking skills on the water. And the last but not least trip of the day was a day hike to the beautiful Huskin’s Branch, the hikers for this trip were Sam S, Owen L, Andrew B, Sam S, Angelo G, Brooks M, and Grant H.
While those boys were having some amazing adventures, things back at camp were still running a little backwards, which is why after fourth period we headed to the Tuck for breakfast! We had some amazing chicken and waffles which were so replenishing after a very warm day. During lunch, they announced who won the tribal games last night and this morning… The Golden Eagles won yesterday and the Black Bears won this morning, so both mighty tribes were able to celebrate and be happy. After lunch everyone then headed to free time for about an hour and then we all went back to our cabins for rest time, the best time.
During rest time it started pouring rain for about 20 minutes, so the cabins of Tomahawk, Little Piney, Big Piney, and Stomper’s Knob took of advantage of it and did some slipping & sliding while waiting for the next activity period.
After we were all done with our activities we headed to dinner and had some delicious pulled pork with mac and cheese with some sugar cookies for dessert. After dinner all of us headed to chapel and sang some of our favorite songs! Then before the night ended, our post-evening activity was county fair! There were multiple posts with different activities for all of us to enjoy and some snow cones as well!
And with our county fair, this concluded our Cowboy Joe day here at Timberlake. We all had a wonderful special day here at camp and can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
