Some days at camp feel like a turning point — not because of any one big event, but because everything just clicks. Today was one of those days. With strong vibes, a smooth rhythm, and the camp community firing on all cylinders, we stepped confidently into the second week of the session.

We kicked things off this morning with a breakfast that can only be described as elite: cinnamon rolls, sausage patties, creamy grits, and — perhaps most importantly — a fresh restock of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. For me, that alone signaled a great day ahead.

At chapel, we sang some Timberlake classics before counselors took turns praying over their cabins. It was a simple but powerful moment — lifting up camper requests and offering the day to the Lord.

After chapel, it was time for cabin clean-up. Today, Huckleberry found their stride and absolutely crushed it, scoring an epic 9.5 to take the win. The Golden Plunger race just got even more interesting.

The morning was packed with competition and energy. The big event: the Timberlake Triathlon. Campers gave it everything in a triple challenge of swimming, biking, and running. Owen T. came out on top with a fantastic all-around performance, followed closely by Jack B. A huge shoutout to all who competed — a true display of grit and endurance.

Meanwhile, the rest of camp enjoyed a full slate of Sunday competitions. We fished. We built sandcastles and forts. And, in a tradition like no other, we hosted the iconic Sunday at the Masters disc golf tournament. Campers brought their A-game, and the friendly competition made for an unforgettable morning.

Lunch brought out a camp favorite — Greek pitas — and let me tell you, we feasted. After revealing the results of cabin clean-up and another Golden Eagle win in last night’s tribal game, the dining hall erupted with excitement as we announced a surprise treat: Ice Cream Sundaes! With bowls stacked high and smiles all around, we rolled into the best hour of the day — Rest Hour — much needed and fully enjoyed.

The afternoon slowed into that familiar, easy Sunday pace. Campers scattered across free swim, a lively pickleball tournament, and for our oldest campers in Greybeard, a Timberlake classic: Hunger Games. We all gathered at the beach to watch the opening ceremony at the Cornucopia and the opening battle. The men of Greybeard competed with integrity and grit, and when the dust settled, Harrison D. emerged victorious. Well fought, Greybeard.

As evening fell, the whole camp came together on Spencer’s Green for our traditional Sunday cookout — burgers, hot dogs, kale mac salad, and the longest-standing Timberlake tradition: campfire cookies. Nothing better.

After dinner, we moved into Vespers. Aidan P. and Tristan D. had us laughing with a hilarious Camp Weekend Update skit. BMO brought the music, playing some camp favorites — Sweet Home Alabama was a standout. And of course, the counselors closed it out with a series of top-tier skits.

We transitioned from laughter to reflection as John shared a true story about losing a race he desperately wanted to win — and the way his dad comforted him afterward. It was a beautiful reminder that God’s love isn’t based on our achievements, but is freely given, even in our losses.

To end the evening:

  • Junior Camp played Gaga and spent time with their cabin families.

  • Intermediate Camp sent it down the slip ’n slide.

  • Senior Camp faced off in tribal soccer and basketball under the lights.

It was another classic Timberlake Sunday. What a gift it is to pause the regular schedule, celebrate our community, and recharge for the week ahead. We can’t wait to see what week two has in store.

Until tomorrow,

Winston Horn
