Happy Opening Day Camp Timberlake! Session 3 is officially underway and we could not be more excited. An early morning fog burned off as the sun rose on a gorgeous morning here in the mountains. Campers began pouring into property as soon as the gates opened, ready to start another session of growth through friends and adventure.

“Welcome to camp!” echoed over the hills all morning as campers got moved into their cabins and started to settle into life here at Timberlake. In the afternoon we got to cool off with a quick dip in Lake Newcomb for our swim check and then it was off to tribal initiation. We have two tribes here at Camp Timberlake and they make up one of the most fun and impactful traditions we have here at camp. The Golden Eagle Tribe and the Black Bear Tribe have been battling for the banner every year since 1983 and this session the competition is sure to be fierce. Our tribes give us the opportunity to model great competition and great sportsmanship, and they also are a fantastic way to give every new camper an immediate sense of connection and belonging.

Our initiation ceremony is a special time to welcome the new guys to their tribe and today we initiated a great group of warriors, faithful to their tribe.

Our new Black Bears are: Samuel H, Will W, Andrew W, Henry M, Carrick S, Grey G, Jack T, John Martin R, Birth W, Arthur K, Ben B, and Eli B

Our new Golden eagles are: Kiran L, Michael B, James A, Luke P, Jackson W, Micah H, Theo J, Tolly O, Hudson P and Sims W

After initiation we enjoyed a delicious dinner of chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, dinner rolls and corn with a camp favorite, oreo dream for dessert. Tonight’s tribal game was perhaps the most famous of them all, Sock War! The rain caused the game to be cut a little bit short but the guys still had time to have a blast. We’ll find out tomorrow at lunch which tribe emerged victorious.

As the guys settle down for the night I can’t help but get excited for all the great adventures that lay ahead. Be sure to check back in here each night to hear all about them. Thank you so much for sharing your sons with us this summer.
