Second Session is heating up!
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Wednesday is the best day at camp: trips are in full swing, skills are being improved and friendships are blossoming. And this Wednesday was no different.
While most of camp woke up comfortably in their bunks, the brave boys of our Solo 13 trip woke under the canopy of the woods. Well done to Drew. D, Daniel. G, Arnold. A, Riggs. C, Jack. B, Nick. C, Francesco. P, Ernest. F, Noah. G for successfully completing their night of backpacking.
Another great breakfast of french toast and sausage patties helped to fuel us all for another busy day ahead as we have 3 trips running today. Grant. C, Henry. S, Harris.N, Patrick. F, Arnold. A, Aaron. D, Lucas. B headed out to take on the mountain bike trails of the G5 system in Old Fort. Nolan. Y, Arav. S, Cooper. W, Jack. B, Sam. C, Jonathan. B crushed it on their climbing trip to Melrose Mountain. Finally Finley. S, Thomas. C, Eli. J, Larry. W, Dane. T, JB. W ,were out kayaking at Catawba learning new paddle strokes and cooling off from the heat.
At chapel we enjoyed another true story from our turtleback counsellor Joey.B. exploring “who is man?” Joey shared a mistake he made at camp years ago and his punishment pulling weeds, cleaning the lake and sweeping the path. But the great news is God forgives when we sin without the need for punishment or repayment. After a prayer over the day, the boys went to clean their cabins in pursuit of the coveted golden plunger. Stompers Knob took the win today with an impressive score of 9.75 but the race is just beginning as Hawksbill, Little Piney and Little Slaty chase with respectable scores of 9.25.
The boys are working hard in all their activities to earn bars and hone their talents. Big shoutout to Lucas.B for achieving his silver and Hall.W for achieving his bronze up on Spencers Green in field sports. Down at the lake Patrick. F completed his bronze and Emerson. F achieved his gold in canoeing. Great job boys!
As the boys arrived for lunch it was hard to tell what they were most excited for: Monte Cristo sandwiches or the announcement of last night’s winners. Drum roll please… the winners of Senior Camp Bandits Rancheros, the GOLDEN EAGLES! And the winner of junior and intermediate cabin night… FURTHER UP!
This afternoon camp continues to bustle activity with boys catching fish, crafting amazing pottery pieces and shooting at the archery range. We’re super proud of Luca.P for making it to the top of the climbing tower today. Crushed it.
After a busy day the bell rang for dinner with promise of chicken fajitas and mexican beans followed by churros. We love our kitchen staff! With the Black Bears keen for redemption anticipation in the dining hall grew as the evening activity grew imminent. AANNNDDD NOOWWW….. we’re playing El Presidente!!! The boys rushed off the prepare for battle with their eyes firmly set on the banner.
As the sun sets on another successful day of camp, rivalry between the two tribes remains strong, but not as strong as the brotherhood between our boys.
