Happy Friday from Camp Timberlake! Today has been jam PACKED with action and fun and we appreciate all our parents waiting for your friendly neighborhood camp director to get around to sharing all about it.

This morning we dined on some delicious biscuits, eggs, bacon and breakfast potatoes before hearing a true story from Little Slaty counselor Charlie V. After chapel we sent two big trips out to go fly fishing and kayaking. Santiago M, Teddy M, Braxton F, Emerson F, Thomas C, Finley S, Quay B and Will M loaded up their kayaks to take on the mighty Tuckaseegee river. The word on the street is that they absolutely styled it. In addition to the river trip, Will C, Ryder S, Alex H, Larry W, Thomas H and Eli J hit the streams in search of the perfect rainbow trout.

Lunch was a fun affair (as usual) as our counselors always find a way to keep things interesting. After munching down on some greek pita, Joey B shared his top 10 list of sodas (#1 Dr. Pepper, #2 Cheerwine and #3 baja blast mountain dew if you’re interested in knowing who made the podium). The list was greeted with cheers and shrieks of dismay and (how could sprite not be in the top 5??) but it certainly sparked some fun conversations. We also had the exciting announcement of our first perfect 10 in cabin clean up today. Congrats to Stomper’s knob! Finally the sultan of fun himself, Jake H, announced the winners of junior and intermediate camp battle ball…the Black Bears! Not to be outdone, the senior camp Golden Eagles were victorious in their rounds of Battleball, so the race for the banner remains incredibly tight.

This afternoon our two day mountain biking trip to Dupont returned. Gabe W, Grant C, Harris N, Henry S, Lucas B and Harrison C all shredded some classic trails like heartbreak and ridgeline. Nonetheless all their cabin friends were excited to see them return. Dinner was cheese tortellini, broccoli and garlic biscuits. Dessert was oreo dream, which yes, is every bit as delicious as it sounds. There was an extra platter of the scrumptious dessert so wouldn’t you know it of course we had a oreo dream eating contest. Both contested ate fast and ate a LOT but Jeremiah B emerged victorious over a valiant and very full Ben P. 

Tonight we had our first little chief ceremony of the session. Once a week we stop and have this special ceremony to recognize just a few of the great moments of growth we’ve seen this week. Campers who get bronze, silver or gold bars in activities are recognized. We also award camper and counselor commendations in each cabin and shout out boys who did special elective challenges around camp. All of this leads to promotions in our little chief system. Lastly we recognize the boys who are at camp for their 1st, 3rd, 6th or 10th summer. Each of those milestones receives a different small gift with our 10 year guys receiving an engraved mini canoe paddle and custom smathers and branson camp timberlake belt. Tonight we had a bunch of guys to recognize but I have to give some major recognition to our newest 10 year son of timberlake: Robert S!
