Happy last day of Session 1B! Today we celebrated the campers and participated in special activities and traditions for the last day of camp. We started the day with scrambled eggs and biscuits, then were off to the final daily activities, including some rocket launches today in Rocketry and an exciting game of “Jail” in Tennis. At lunch, after the best lunch ever (pizza), John awarded the cleanest cabin at camp the Golden Plunger… Congrats Turtleback! In the afternoon, everyone enjoyed a full hour of rest time to pack and spend time in the cabin. Campers raced to the Trading Post one last time when the bugle rang for free time. In the evening, Hawaiian meatballs were served for dinner before the Little Chief and Final Campfire ceremonies.
Each week at Timberlake the entire camp gathers for Little Chief, a ceremony recognizing some of the great achievements we have seen over the past week. Tonight we honored campers for receiving counselor and camper commendations, awards that are voted on by the campers peers and counselors for their leadership qualities. Campers who excel in their activities or through electives and commendations are awarded promotions for earning a certain number of marks. Campers who earn 34 marks over the years can receive the highest possible rank of Little Chief. A special shout out to the two boys receiving the rank of Little Chief tonight, H.P. and Gavin W.! Every camper who received a commendation or promotion tonight is listed below.
On the last night of every session, we reflect on the best memories and honor campers’ growth over the past four weeks at the Final Campfire following the Little Chief ceremony. At Final Campfire, the staff recalled their favorite moments and shared “Remember when…” statements to the whole camp. The oldest cabin of Greybeard has a longstanding tradition of Greybeard speeches, where each camper has a chance to share about their time at Timberlake. At the end of the ceremony, John reminded every camper what it means to be a Son of Timberlake and how special it is to be a part of our big camp family. All together, we sang the Camp Hymn one final time, then each camper lined up and shook every counselors’ hand before heading back to the cabin. The Final Campfire tradition is so special, providing a time to recognize and celebrate the entire session of excitement, adventure, and growth.
What a session it has been! We are so grateful for each and every camper these past couple of weeks at Camp Timberlake, and we can’t wait for these first session campers to be back next summer!
