Making the Most of Our Last Days of Session 1A!
Hello, Families of Camp Timberlake! We’ve been having a great last few days of session 1A here at camp. So many of the boys have been working hard in their activities, going out on some amazing trips out of camp, and finishing up work on some of their bars for their activities! It’s started to heat up here, but thankfully we’ve had some great activities here at the lake to keep us cooled down.
We’ve also had several trips out on the water today! Luke Ramey, Ashton Medford, Zach Wroten, Noah Patrick, Mckean Kipp, and Alex Baroody headed out to South Mountain to get hooked on some trout, with Alex Baroody having an especially good day out in the cool creeks of Western North Carolina. Fly fishing trips are always a blast here at camp, and are a good chance to let some of our young anglers try out some of the skills that they learn here at camp!
Meanwhile, on the French Broad River, Jack Haley, Carson Berry, Weston Lashley, Andrew Magyar, William Boice, David Howard, Warren Lokey, Patrick McCoy, Eli Myrick, Roman Rapetti Falco, Jude Wright, and Elliot Alvarez all had a great whitewater rafting trip! On warm days like today, there’s nothing better than getting out on cool mountain waters for some action-packed rafting.
Our last trip out today, but certainly not the least, was our overnight mountain biking trip out to rocky knob! Dakota Mather, Hugh Whitehead, Sanders Hearne, Harrison Clarke, Henry Oeser, Mason Scharf, and Miles Anderson all crushed it on one of our most advanced trips for all of our riders here in camp. They spent two days at Rocky Knob, riding my personal favorite pump track, and also getting on some of the amazing trail systems there as well, then going to spend the night at Price lake, an amazing campground right off the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway.
Back at campwe had a ton of campers working hard to get those bars finished up before the end of camp this weekend. In riflery, Tucker Lyman received his silver bar, and Edward Tierny managed to get his bronze bar too! David Frazer also got his backpacking bronze, along with Robbie Gohde, Sean Alvarez, David Dampf, Dylan Hudson, William Boice, David Howard, and John Phillip.
Our meals today at camp were particularly notable, with some excellent stromboli and some carnitas tacos keeping us going throughout the day! With some trading posts from our CITs in the middle of the day to give everyone a little energy boost.
Cabin Cleanup has only continued to heat up here at camp, with Greybeard taking the win today with an amazing score of a 9.75. But the race is still close, with only 0.25 points being the deciding factor between who wins the glorious golden plunger here at camp.
After all the hard work the campers have put in for bars tonight, we still have a couple of surprises left for them this evening! Our evening activity tonight is probably my personal favorite, commando. A game that involves several hundred water balloons, and a whole lot of fun! But after that we have a surprise for all of our campers: Fireworks! Our very own pyro technician John Menendez has put together an amazing fireworks show for everyone here at camp. And with that bright explosive finale, I’ll sign off for tonight
