Hello Camp Timberlake fam! Good evening and I hope you are all having a wonderful Tuesday!

Now time for a joke…

Why were Taco Tuesdays introduced?

Because they wanted to give us something to taco ‘bout the whole week!

Even though we did not celebrate Taco Tuesday today it is important to acknowledge this incredible weekly holiday.

Not only is it Taco Tuesday but it is also Tropical Tuesday. At Timberlake we show up and show out. As I made my way to the Tuck for some yummy grub in the morning, I was surrounded by tropical vibes from both the counselors and the campers! Looking at everyone’s attire you could have easily mistaken it for a resort in Cancun! This morning we enjoyed eggs and potatoes. I cannot think of a better way to start the morning than some scrambled eggs. Protein is a MUST in the morning!

We all rushed over to the Chapel to worship our lovely Lord Jesus. Seeing Jesus work in these kids’ lives is the most spectacular and rewarding part of this job. We enjoyed singing some of our favorite worship songs all together. GO TIMBERLAKE! Today we heard a true story from Archie on Hebrews 11! Fun Fact: Hebrews 11 is typically called the “Hail of Heroes’ ‘ and all in all the true hero in the story is God himself.

There were some incredible accomplishments today that deserve to be shared. Barrett C. got his roll in kayaking today WOWWW!!! Graham W. earned his bronze in archery. We have some future Hawkeyes from the Marvel Universe in the making. Today Lewis T. and Luke S. climbed the deep water solo wall. Jack V. made great progress towards Gold in climbing! Jack V. and Sam C. recited Teddy Roosevelt’s “ Men in the Arena speech” from memory as part of their wrestling gold. More to be released about their progress towards the gold in tomorrow’s blog.

The trip aspect of Timberlake is very near and dear to our hearts and today we had three trips out! Today there was a climbing trip to the chimneys! On it was an adventurous group of campers: Oliver H, Jude V, William C, Grayson S, Charlie T, and Garret L. We had some mountain bikers go out on a trip: Owen M, CJ R, Wes D, Lewis J, Dakota M, Luke F, Grayson W, Barron P, James B, Penn S, Luke B, and Sawyer P. Last but not least we have the rafting trip! On this trip were Quay B, George de B, Sean A, Luke T, William F, Pace W, London A, Peter K, Luke F, Charles L, and McKean K.

Although we did not celebrate Taco Tuesday we did have some scrumptious chicken quesadillas. My favorite addition was the GUAC! Guac is better than salsa and I will die on that hill. During lunch the big question always remains: WHO WON CABIN CLEANUP. This is all in the quest for the coveted Golden Plunger! In this battle for the golden plunger I have to acknowledge Big Piney got BACK TO BACK 10’S on Cabin Cleanup for the first two days. We LOVE clean cabins at Camp Timberlake! I have to report that all cabins performed quite well in cabin cleanup today! After lunch it was time for the BEST TIME……… RESTTTTTT TIMEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!! Time to unwind and decompress especially during hot days like today! During rest time you can find campers reading, playing silent card games, or getting some shut eye! I usually opt in for a nice silent card game like uno or BS! Next is free time! Free time is always an incredible time at Camp Timberlake. Especially when the campers can enjoy TRADE POST! Who wouldn’t want M&M’s or some GATORADE? I definitely do. WHOOT electrolytes!!!

Moving on because there is so much to talk about today! Let’s delve into some of the other amazing things happening in our four lovely activity periods of the day…. Mountain biking is striving to improve one of their trails, so be on the lookout for more updates about that. During backpacking class, students learned more about plants! In improv, the kids started making skits for an infomercial. As the pottery instructor, I was able to watch the kids relax and let their creative juices flow. Fencing class tackled some essential basic skills today. It is just like the Princess Bride!

Dinner is always a treat and tonight was no exception… Fried Chicken! For dessert it was also a blessing that satisfied our taste buds…. APPLE FRITTERSSSSSSSS!

Tonight as we are all recovering from stuffing our faces with the delicious fried chicken and apple fritters at dinner, the activities at Camp Timberlake continue! It is cabin night which is a very exciting night at Camp Timberlake! The Huckleberry cabin is starting out with a s’mores night and then catching fireflies. At the Finch’s cabin they are having a kickball game, counselors versus campers. A 2 versus 11 game sounds intense and I am excited to hear more about this game later tonight. What I am about to tell you now is true competition. The two Further cabins have a rivalry and only time will tell who will come out on top.  THE-FURTHER-LYMPICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for Tiger Tooth, they will enjoy some fort building and s’mores at the council ring. Hawksbill will enjoy a game night and karaoke! I hope one of them sings Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond! Turtleback will enjoy competitive pickleball matches with a side of popsicles. DELICIOUS! Overall, what great bonding activities for the kiddos!

And with this I am signing off! What a wonderful Tropical Tuesday 🙂
