Let the Adventure Race Begin!
Let the Adventure Race Begin!
Good evening! Today was a normal day at camp—which, of course, means nothing was normal! The calm before the storm, however, was a delicious breakfast of french toast sticks (105% drenched in syrup, as is Timberlake tradition—of course, the extra 5% is located entirely on Junior Camp’s fingers), followed by a kayaking-themed morning yell led by our amazing trip staff! After listening to a true chapel story by Yours Truly, the campers raced off enthusiastically to clean cabins (Congratulations to the cabin of Tigertooth for winning today’s cabin cleanup!).
Among other exciting activities, one thing which made today special was the Adventure Race, a fantastic quintathlon of wacky and physically challenging tasks which brought out the best in our young men. Participating in the Adventure Race today were: Quay B., George d.B., Barron P., George S., Ben H., Noah J., Philip H., Wills W., Burns H., Landon F., Henry L., Sean A., Robbie G., Pace W., and Luke T.! These brave souls were tasked with: canoeing across the lake while balancing on wooden beams, and then climbing the (brand-new) lake climbing wall straight from the canoe; constructing a tin foil boat for a tennis ball and goading it down the Lagoon; completing a full Murph (1 mile, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and another mile!) between each four-man team; completing a game of Connections (like the NYT game, but Camp Timberlake style); and, finally, they must scale Spyglass, treating the hill like “The Floor is Lava”, tossing wooden bricks ahead at each step. The winners shall be revealed soon!
Outside of camp property today, we were incredibly excited to launch not one, not two, but three trips; we first sent a group of boys (Grayson B., Jackson F., Drew R., Palmer E., Owen G., Reid M.) out fly fishing, where they caught some huge trout on the North Toe river! Garrett L., Holden G., Hill W., Alex D., William C., Charlie H., JB S., Griggs C., Grayson S., Gionni D., and Henry H. tore up a cliff today on a rock climbing trip to the Chimneys; and John T., Ben L., Nolan B., Christian B., Sam J., David Luke H., Emmett M., Will S., Griffin W., Fitch W., Duma M., and Holden B. sped down Section 9 of the French Broad River on an awesome rafting trip!
Back on the home front, we had an equally invigorating day in our normal activities! Case M. earned his Gold bar in Paintball, Henry L. earned his Silver in Air Soft, Connor T. earned his Gold in Pickleball, and Lewis S. and Maddox K. earned their Bronzes in Guitar! Sam H. performed a 45 minute tread in Swimming, and Elliot A. in Junior Camp completed the challenging Drop Course in Mountain Biking, which are both super impressive!
After a darn-tootin’ scrumptious dinner of country fried steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans (with a healthy heaping of gravy), the boys split up into Senior, Intermediate, and Junior camps for their respective tribal games for this evening. Senior Camp will be enjoying a camp classic—Battleball! Tried and true, one might be fooled into believing Battleball is just like dodgeball, but that could not be further from the truth! Intermediate Camp will be playing the esoteric camp game of Aqua Fest, a series of challenges all centered on our very own Lake Newcomb! Finally (but most definitely not least!), Junior Camp is playing Sock War tonight—a game which needs absolutely no introduction. We are excited to see which tribe prevails in each of these activities (Congratulations to the Golden Eagles for winning The Great Escape last night)!
That’s about all I have to report for this evening! When more news most certainly arrives, you all will be the first to know!
