Timberlake! Lend me your ears for today is a glorious Sunday!

Filled in this action-packed Sunday was the camper’s personal favorite (and mine), an extra hour of sleep! After waking up rejuvenated and refreshed, campers were greeted down at the Tuck with a delicious Sunday tradition breakfast: cinnamon rolls, delectable sausage links, and of course, rich chocolate milk. Oh yes! We have a birthday in the house today! It’s Logan D’s Triple Golden Birthday. This will be his 7th year, 7th month, and 7 day.

After a very entertaining morning yell with lots of ‘Mesas’ intermingled within it, campers headed up the chapel for some daily music classics: Arise, Let My Light Shine, How Deep the Father’s Love for Us, and Isaiah 43. After the energetic songs, prayer time was led by each cabin counselor for specific prayer requests. Because Sunday was a special day unlike any other, a silly story wasn’t told but a time for prayer for Camp Timberlake and the campers within. And of course, after each chapel was cabin cleanup but this time it was worth double points which means high risk high reward.

Once Cabin Cleanup is finished, campers got to choose between the many varieties of activities including sandcastle building, frog catching, Sunday at the Masters (disc golf), Fort Building, and my personal favorite, the Timberlake Annual Triathalon. This year’s Timberlake Triationlon competitors (MAY I HAVE A DRUMROLL!!!)… Gary M, West L, Carson B, Simeon S, JD A, Quay B, Gabe W, Mac C, and Barret B. Once the bugle sounded, each of the competitors jumped into the refreshing lake as they would start with a morning swim, a towering bike ride up Spy Glass Hill, and a nice trot to the Chapel to finish it.

As we moved on to lunch, we had a rare and delicious treat, Southwestern wraps followed by a SURPRISE, Confetti Cake! During lunch, there was Sibling Day which means 50 Timberlake campers were greeted by their fellow Merri Mac sisters for a delicious Lunch at the Chapel.

Oh yes, you’re probably wondering about cabin cleanup today… (give me another drumroll please) Ahem, we had a few upsets including most notably Little Piney’s first win this year against the emerging Golden Plunger favorites Big Piney with a very respectable score of 9.75. Very Clean indeed. That’s not all folks. The winners for today’s cabin clean up with a perfect and their first 10 is Stomper’s Knob. Placing consistently in the 9s this session, they finally assert themselves as serious contenders in the race with a stellar 10.

The winners in Timberlake’s Annual Triathalon include Simion S in first, JD A. in second, and taking the bronze medal Gabe W. Sunday’s fort-building contest winners were team ‘Joey is Short’ and Sandcastle Building team Timberlake Mountain range took the spotlight for first. Jack W placed first in frog catching. I couldn’t touch one myself! Good for him!

Sadly, it was not a good day for the Golden Eagles (me included) as the Black Bears continued their impressive lead for the Banner with a HUGE WIN in Junior and Intermediate Camp in the game Bandit Rancheros. I know all ya’ll Black Bear fans are wheeling in delight! Fear not Golden Eagles, for redemption is a few hours away!

As the afternoon continues, campers and staff have the best hour, REST HOUR! After rest time, charged-up campers roam around camp looking to play their favorite activities including pickle ball, basketball, soccer (football), and many other splendid activities. Around 5, campers all head over to Spencer’s Green for a delighting and yummy Sunday Cookout including juicy burgers, refreshing watermelon, and of course the Camp Fire Cookie a tradition since 1983. Campfire Cookies are legendary at camp and even John M, director of Camp Timberlake, quotes it as the ‘greatest invention in Camp History.” As the children’s stomachs are filled with yummy cookies they attend an evening concert featuring the Black Mountain Oysters. Our nightly procedures after our evening concert include my personal favorite the county fair! As the day wraps up, campers are now snuggling in bed filled with a warm festive spirit ready for tomorrow’s adventures!
