Sundays are Special
Sundays are Special
Here at camp, Sunday truly lives up to its name as a fun day. This day is set aside for everyone to relax, do something new, and all in all enjoy a break from the rhythm of normal camp life. To switch things up, we always start the day by sleeping in an extra hour and enjoying a legendary breakfast of cinnamon rolls, bagels, and everyone’s favorite, chocolate milk. At the chapel, we spent some time praying for each and every cabin, camper, as well as lifting up various prayer requests. After shouting…GO CLEAN THOSE CABINS!…Everyone rushed off to get their cabins as clean as possible before moving on to their Sunday Funday morning activities.
Some decided to live up to the name of the day and enjoy some sun down at the beach during a Sandcastle building competition. The Paw Patrol constructed an epic castle to win. Up in the woods, some campers hiked around gathering sticks and large branches to build creative and cool forts. And other campers participated in a tradition like no other, Sunday at the Master’s, which took place on a completely redesigned back 9 course. It was a tight race, and Matthew A. narrowly landed victorious with a score of -1 through the new course.
While some enjoyed these on camp activities, others rushed off to head out for some awesome trips. Richard F., Thomas R., Reid L., Henry L., Kellan P., Sam H., and Parker S., took off to send it down the rapid Tuckasegee river for some glorious kayaking. Also out in the water, Gehrig C., Colin G., Todd M P., William S., Stewart W., and Powers T., all flew out to go fly fishing. Heading away from the water and deeper into the mountains, Pick D., Aaron S., Charlie S., Derby M., Zach M., Cooper W., Cian M., Oliver G., and Bay J., left to shred down the Rocky Knob trail system for an insanely fun overnight Mountain Biking trip.
After the conclusion of the morning, we were all excited to head down to lunch, where we feasted on some Southern Style Wraps. Soon after, we found out that Huckleberry and Turtleback had tied with a 9.5 to win cabin cleanup for the day. While Junior and Intermediate camp dominated cabin cleanup, it was also time to find out which tribe had stood victorious at Sock War last night. It was…THE GOLDEN EAGLES! To conclude our lunch time, the campers were surprised with another fit to the name of the day, some Ice Cream Sundaes. After such an exciting and action packed morning, we were all ready to trek back to our cabins for a much needed rest HOUR.
The afternoon rolled along as we continued at our relaxed easy pace for some free time. Some splashed and swam around during a free swim for the entire camp. Others headed to the other side of camp to play in an epic pickleball tournament. A total of 24 duos entered, but only one came out victorious. Jack S and Kaito T came home with the victory, cementing themselves as champions. After a while, it was time to head up to the Mark, where we enjoyed a delicious cookout with burgers, hotdogs, and of course a camp-favorite, the campfire cookie.
As the afternoon settled into evening, the camp headed over to the chapel for, in my opinion, the best part of Sunday, Vespers. The vibes were high and the energy was palpable as BMO performed some camp favorites including Firework, which could be heard from across camp. Following the songs, Hydration decided to visit, and kept demanding to be given a vacation. But we obviously couldn’t let that happen, because Hydration NEVER takes a vacation. To close us out Adam B shared a true story about how Jesus saves us.
And before settling down for bed, Junior camp helped John out with a special project. Unbeknownst to many Timberlakers, this offseason our friendly neighborhood camp directors began experimenting with a dinosaur breeding program. After successfully hatching three eggs (a triceratops and two T-rexes) they’ve been raising them in the big house all summer. The only problem was that today they escaped! Thankfully our junior campers were up to the task of tracking down and recapturing the dinosaurs, keeping our hopes of a Timberlake Dino training program alive for future summers. Intermediate camp rushed down to the lake for their second free swim of the day. And Senior Camp headed back up to the Mark for an intense match of both Tribal Soccer and Tribal Basketball.
Sunday is truly a blessing to all of camp. I believe we can all agree that Sunday is the most Funday.
