Tribapalooooooooooza!!!
Today was no ordinary day at Camp Timberlake—it was Tribapalooza!, a full day dedicated to epic tribal competition, thrilling trips, and incredible camp energy. From the moment the bugle sounded, excitement was in the air, and campers jumped into action for what would be one of the most eventful days of the session.
We kicked off the morning with a satisfying breakfast of hash browns, eggs, and sausage, giving everyone the energy they needed for a packed day. Shortly after breakfast, campers divided into their groups for the day’s off-site adventures.
On the Fly Fishing trip, six campers set off with rods in hand and high hopes. Sam H, Grant Sanders, and Bo O each caught beautiful trout, making it a successful day on the water. They were joined by John Isaac H, Braxton B, and Luke M, all enjoying the quiet serenity and skill of fly casting in the cool mountain streams.
Another group of campers launched into an exciting journey with the Overnight Mountain Biking trip. Pick D, Aaron S, Charlie S, Darby M, Zach M, Cooper W, Cian M, Oliver G, and Bay J loaded their gear and pedaled into the backcountry, tackling challenging terrain and building strong bonds through teamwork and adventure.
Meanwhile, our Rafting group was in for a wild ride. Thomas R, Mac S, Charles S, Beckett A, Colin G, William S, Sam N, John S, Stewart W, Robert B, Jack T, Lynwood W, Patrick H, and Connor T took on the rapids with confidence and enthusiasm. The thrill of crashing waves and shared teamwork made it a highlight of the day.
But while the trips were memorable, the heart of today’s excitement came from Tribapalooza—a full day of competition between the Golden Eagles and the Black Bears.
In the morning, Junior Camp faced off in a classic game of Bandits Rancheros, dodging and sprinting across the tennis courts, while Senior Camp took to the lake for a water-filled favorite: Aqua Fest (which is essentially a big swim meet with a camp twist). Some of the most popular events were the water polo game, canoe relay and of course the belly flop contest. After that the whole camp came together for a full camp game of Search and Destroy. The competition was fierce but I was proud of the good sportsmanship showed by all.
After a delicious lunch of fried chicken sandwiches with crispy fries, campers regrouped and dove into the afternoon events. This afternoon, after a full rest hour and extended free time that saw lots of boys working on marks and a lot of other boys enjoying a mega free swim, the tribes battled it out in Super Mario, a creative game where the tribes had to collect different items and defeat Bowser to rescue Princess Peach. In the end it was the golden eagles who liberated the fair princess from the evil clutches of the menacing reptilian villian, Bowser. And as if there couldn’t be any more fun, before dinner the whole camp gathered at the beach to watch the Greybeard cabin (our oldest campers) begin their annual Hunger Games Challenge. A dramatic, all over camp free for fall where only one camper emerges victorious.
The day ended with a satisfying dinner of pulled pork tacos, and campers shared stories, laughs, and tribe pride as they reflected on the day’s action. Whether it was catching fish, paddling rapids, racing through camp, or simply cheering on their teammates, every camper found a moment of triumph today.
In our final tribal game of the evening, the tribes had to use all their cunning and strategy to try and outwit and overcome the other in a game of mission impossible. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out who took the crown.
July 21 at Timberlake was packed with purpose, passion, and plenty of fun. As we head into the rest of the week, Tribaopalooza reminds us what makes camp so special—friendly competition, fearless adventure, and a whole lot of heart.
