It’s Chewsday innit?

As the early morning sun peeked through cabin windows, reveille met campers buzzing with energy, ready for another great day here at Camp Timberlake. As the men made their way down for breakfast, the warm smell of waffle sandwiches was not unlike a tractor beam, pulling everyone to the dining hall. After breakfast, the boys raised their voices to the heavens to shake off any lingering grogginess, then headed off to chapel!

Chapel was a loud one today, in the best way possible. Boys sang with all their hearts, praising God! Kate brought the word this morning, telling us about a time she was lost in New York City, and started to doubt that God would guide her to safety, until she found a train station going to where she needed to go. She explained that, even though she doubted God, His faithfulness never dwindled. After a prayer over the day, the boys were off to clean those cabins and get after it in this morning’s activities!

During chapel, a few boys were loading up in the vans to go on some sweet trips today! Steven G., SJ G., Elliot A., Liam B., John Carlos P., and Baxter L. went out and shredded some gnar on the mountain biking trails! Chance M., James N., Phoenix U., Todd Michael P., Steele G., Drew G., Alden S., and Tyler T. crushed it out on a climbing trip! Let’s go boys!

The boys were hard at work in their activities this morning, per usual. In the Timberlake Space Program, Peter M. got his silver bar in rocketry! Down at the lake, representing Dace Nation, Eli F. caught four fish in fishing! Over at the ranges, first period riflery saw a deer! What a banger of a morning.

All this hard work made campers and staff alike pretty hungry, so everyone was quick to rush down to the dining hall for a delicious lunch of sloppy joes! After a quick cleanup, we had quite an exciting line of announcements coming our way. First off, FURTHER IN won cabin cleanup today with a squeaky clean 9.75!! Then, we found out that the GOLDEN EAGLES won BATTLE FOR MIDDLE EARTH last night! However, as I’m writing this I can hear the Black Bears earning their redemption. With that, it was time to go to the best time (rest time), and gear up for an awesome afternoon of activities.

BUT WAIT! A third trip was sent out this afternoon! James S., Walker F., Robert R., Ben R., Sean A., Charlie M., and Duncan M. all brought the stoke to the Catawba in some kayaks! Let’s get it boys!

Back at camp, you already know the boys went all in on their afternoon activities. Up on the hardwood, Ben H. had two blocks in some hardcore hoops! Down at the lake in canoeing, the boys decided to embrace the water and have a free swim! Up on Spencer’s Green, Armand R. ran a 6:28 mile in the activity of fitness! Down on the beach, Tommy F. and Jack S. were very excited to get the new bars! Beach volleyball is looking great this summer!

The bugle for dinner was almost drowned out by the rumbling of tummies as everyone made their way to the dining hall. Campers and staff alike devoured some CHEESE RAVIOLI for dinner, followed by the classic OREO DREAM for dessert! (Seriously, how does the kitchen team do it?) As everyone was cleaning up, you could feel the energy rising in anticipation for the announcement of tonight’s evening activity. This energy exploded as Caleb yelled those two words that we know so well: AAAND NOWWW… The Sultan of Fun himself strapped on the red helmet once again, and took off in a sprint around the dining hall. Finding a suitable elevated surface, he arose above the masses and gathered all towards him. When the volume reached the desirable level, he descended into the crowds, and showed off his training in the martial arts, before announcing… SENIOR CAMP PIRATE BALL, JUNIOR CAMP COPA DEL RIO!!! The boys rushed to prepare for war, and I came here to write to you folks at home.

As I’m writing this, the golden evening brightens in the West, and the lake is filled with various pirates exclamations as they battle fiercely, just as the Lower Green is alive with hectic soccer! Rest assured, these boys will sleep like babies tonight, and wake again tomorrow, ready to conquer another day. For now, I’ll sign off, but be sure to come back tomorrow for more on the action here at Camp Timberlake!

Until next time,
