Friday vibes all day
The first Friday at Camp Timberlake this summer was comfortably a success. The boys rose from their beds this morning, and were hit by a cool breeze and fog over the lake. We marched on towards breakfast (many still in their pajamas), ready to seize the day. A hearty breakfast filled our stomachs, with eggs, bacon, and biscuits aplenty, accompanied by appearances from apple juice and milk-filled cereal. We stepped on outside for the traditional morning yell, and an always excellent chapel where we sang our hearts out. Two trips headed out with a hopeful result of discovering a waterfall just after breakfast with Maverick C., Lukas R., Brady K., Silas S., Hudson H., Davis B., Lukas L., and William G headed out on the day hike to Huskins Branch. I’m happy to report not only did the boys find the waterfall but they had a great time splashing around the bottom.
Meanwhile, Charles L., Asher K., Rhodes R., Elias H., Thornton H., Charles A., and Talton A. hiked up to upper creek falls. This is one of our favorite natural swimming holes to take trips to the the guys loved swimming in the water and sliding down the big sliding rock. As we moved back towards our cabins for cabin cleanup, Stompers Knob clearly separated themselves as the victors today, boasting a PERFECT 10/10, breezing through the competition. However, an impressive jump up from Finch’s Landing, as they placed themselves on the podium for the first time this session. Putting down brooms and picking up the bows, the archery range became quite popular today as it was open during freetime. Stephen J. and Adams H. obliged, snagging their bronze groupings before the period was over. Tucker L. went out with a bang, as he picked up another 30-yard grouping on the way to his silver in the sport.
As we came back to the tuck, everyone was curious as to who won the infamous, camp classic game of El Presidente. The winners proved themselves worthy as they captured the president in two out of the three games played. The Golden Eagles flew out of their seats again in excitement as they bellowed their tribal hymns in great exultation. Three in a row for the men in blue and yellow
For dinner we chowed down on some Orange Chicken, Rice, and Egg Rolls, with some stir fry veggies to top it off. For dessert, the boys enjoyed sugar cookies and chocolate milk to wash it down. The evening activity announcement was the highlight of the meal, however, as chants from each cabin reigned down from each table after Senior camp Cabin Night was announced. For junior and intermediate camp, the classic Bandits and Rancheros was announced. Who will score a point for their tribe?
As the sun sets over the North Carolina mountains I can hear Tomahawk and Little Piney enjoying their free swim and beach luau. Stomper’s Knob and Big Piney had an epic shaving cream war followed by about 100 laps down our famous slip-n-slide. Little Slaty played some cabin battleball before enjoy a campfires and some s’mores. Big Slaty got to head up to John and Catherine’s house to grill out steaks and Greybeard also jumped in the lake before relaxing with a cabin card night. It’s hard to imagine a better end to the day.
