What a fantastic Sunday to start Session 3B here at Timberlake! Despite a rainy and misty morning, the excitement was noticeably in the air as we began our first full day of camp. That excitement reached another level when we found out our amazing kitchen staff had prepared a Sunday tradition like no other here at camp: cinnamon rolls! Having cinnamon rolls, bagels with cream cheese, and sausage patties as our first breakfast really kick-started what we think will be the best session of the entire summer.

We continued to feel this enthusiasm in Chapel, which was capped off with a true story from our friendly neighborhood camp director, John Menendez. After Chapel, we sent out two amazing trips. Jonas M., Owen C., Sumner D., Stephen G., Steele G., Baxter L., Jackson P., Bob E., Christian M., Thomas R., and James S. departed camp and headed up to raft the French Broad for the day!

On the other hand, Richard F., J. Taggart A., Walker F., Alden S, Pierce S., and Jack M. headed over to the North Toe for some fly-fishing.

We also started off on the right note in terms of cabin cleanup! Every camper cabin earned above an eight, and seven cabins scored over a nine on Cabin Inspection today. The cleanest cabins of all, however, were Little Slaty and Stomper’s Knob, who both scored 9.75! Way to go boys.

Lucky enough for us, the rain ceased and the skies cleared just in time for our morning activities. It was the perfect opportunity for everyone to jump into camp life and enjoy being together again.

Lunch was another instant classic with the famous “Tacos in a Bag”…..fancy style. After lunch, we gathered closely to hear who won last night’s Sock War…………THE GOLDEN EAGLES! (Fear not Black Bears, redemption is just a few hours away)

Free Time today was one for the books. In addition to the rush of Trading Post, Senior Camp got to enjoy a free swim! Our amazing CIT Director, Parker C., taught Grant S. how to master his gainer. In addition, J. Taggart A. learned how to backflip on the first day of the session. We learn fast here at camp!

Meanwhile over at the picnic tables by trading post, John challenged all of camp to beat him in Connect 4. After 15 consecutive victories, our friendly neighborhood camp director was riding high when who should emerge to dethrone him but…..George C!

The weather truly was at its Sunday best for our afternoon activities, as all 27 activities offered here at camp were in full stride. We also took some time to elect our tribal leaders for the session. Senior camp already had their tribal leaders voted on from the first half of session 3 (all senior camp tribal leaders must be 4 week campers) so junior and intermediate camp elected their leders today. The lookouts for the Golden Eagles are Ford C and Matty C and the Black Bears selected Liles F and Davis O. Congrats gentlemen!

Dinner featured fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and fresh dinner rolls, with apple turnovers to cap off the meal! Staff announcements provided peak entertainment as Wells F. and Charles T. both downed bananas in a spectacular ONE BITE! The excitement did not end there, as our Sultan of Fun, Jake H., announced that Senior Camp would play a brand-new game, “Last Man Standing,” while Junior and Intermediate Camp would play the epic game of Trench Warfare. The final banner race of the summer is coming down to the final two weeks, and every camper knows everything is on the line.

As the sun sets, I hope this glimpse into our first full day of camp helps you share the same mindset our entire staff has: This will be the best two weeks of the summer!

Until Tomorrow,
