We were back in full swing today at Camp Timberlake on a wonderful Wednesday. Campers woke up and rushed down to the Tuck, where they were greeted with scrambled eggs, bacon, and coffee cake. We then headed up to the chapel, where we sang some great tunes before hearing another powerful story from none other than Winston H. On one of his many childhood mountain bike adventures he crashed into a mess of thorny vines and was unable to free himself from the entanglement. Fortunately, his friend came back up the trail to untangle and lift him out of the thorns. A great reflection of what God requires of us—to grab hold of Him and let Him free us from sin.

While we were cleaning cabins (tune in at lunch to see who won!) two sets of adventurers departed from camp. Aedan B, Patterson S, Cole S, Sam S, Sam S, Ben T, and Hayes W all went over to Lake James for an awesome mountain biking adventure. Meanwhile, Spencer B, Stone C, Lane C, Waylon P, Logan S, Silas S, and Bennett W headed to Melrose Mountains for an exciting rock climbing adventure.

We were blessed with a lovely mystic morning as activities got underway across camp. Out on the lake, Peter K mastered his kayaking roll, one of the more difficult skills in all of camp. Lucas R earned his Bronze Bar in the activity of backpacking, while over on the courts, Hudson K achieved Bronze in pickleball. It was another great morning watching campers continue to improve and reach new milestones in their activities.

After an exciting morning, our amazing kitchen staff refueled us with a camp classic: chicken sandwiches and waffle fries. This immediately warranted loud “THANK YOU KITCHEN” chants from campers and counselors all across the dining hall. Moments like these continue to show what makes camp such a special place. The cabin cleanup scores were announced, and Greybeard led the pack today with a sparkling 9.5. Close behind them were Stomper’s Knob, Hawksbill, and Bull Run. There are only a few thousandths of a point between the top few cabins, with only 2 days remaining, so it’s anyone’s plunger at this point.

Before we departed for rest time, the Sultan of Fun, Jake H, announced the winner of Senior Camp’s evening activity from last night, Age of Empires: THE GOLDEN EAGLES. The announcement brought plenty of cheers and excitement from campers all around camp. Junior and Intermediate camp collectively won cabin night, and shared a round of applause for their wonderful counselors for putting on such a spectacular evening of fun-filled activities and camaraderie.

We enjoyed free time today with a wide range of activities open for campers to enjoy. A camp-wide archery tournament was held with David F coming out on top, while Carson B and Tucker L finished in second and third place respectively. Campers spent the afternoon taking advantage of everything Timberlake has to offer, making the most of another great day in the mountains.

Dinner tonight was electric with Hawaiian meatballs, roasted carrots, cornbread, and of course, chocolate cake with icing for dessert. We then learned that tonight would feature a new camp favorite: Infinity Wars. Soon after, we saw some Marvel favorites enter the dining hall, followed by our fearless leader John M dressed up as Thanos, though, you would’ve thought it was the real Thanos with all that purple paint! Campers battled valiantly, and I believe they were able to successfully destroy Thanos and retrieve his infinity stones for the first time in the game’s history. Who will reign victorious? We will have to find out tomorrow at lunch.

As the sun sets across Spyglass Hill, we remember how blessed we are to share this place and this brotherhood, and are making the most of these last few days of 1A.

Until Next Time,
