Rafts, Rapids, and Rivalries
Hello Camp Timberlake!!! Today has been a great day.
Now, many days at camp are great for so many reasons, but the second day of activities just hits
different. All of the boys woke up this morning ready for a great day ahead.
We started off the morning with the breakfast of champions: biscuits and gravy with a side of
hash browns. After breakfast, we made our way to the chapel where a special surprise was in
store. Counselor Nolan S. had overslept, and so, per camp tradition, he took a mandatory, fully
clothed morning plunge off the dive tower right before we began chapel! He then ran back over
to the chapel because he was giving our true story of the morning. Even though he was soaking
wet, Nolan S. gave a great chapel story, and then all of the boys sprinted back to their cabins to
start their cabin clean up.
Some boys headed back up to the Tuck to get ready for some awesome trips. Heading over to the
legendary French Broad River for some white water rafting adventures were Wade G., Jameson
S., Drew F., Davis M., Richard R., Charlie S., Michael B., Braxton B., Christian C., Carter
S., Owen S., and Luke M. While rafting, Owen S. decided to brave it down the rapids while
“riding the bull,” and many others also faced the Swimmer’s Rapid.
Greybeard plus one, Cole R., headed out on a trip to a local swimming hole where they did some
light hiking to a serene swimmable creek. Reynolds A., Beckett B., David C., Wilson F., Zach
M., Thomas R., Ried S., Jack S., Theo T., Zimmer W., and Cole R. embraced the freezing
mountain water and had an unforgettable time at the swimming hole.
For lunch, we enjoyed some stromboli, which is definitely a camp favorite. We then gave a big
drum roll before finding out the cabin inspection scores. We had many clean cabins today, but
our top three were Big Slaty and Big Piney with a score of 9.5, and Stompers Knob with a
score of a 9.75. Great job, guys, those are some very clean cabins! After the cabin inspections
were sorted out, one question was still lingering around the Tuck… Who won Battle for Middle
Earth last night???
The BLACK BEARS!!!!
Great job, Bears, this third session banner will be ours!!
After lunch, we headed to the best time, rest time, and then the freest time, free time, before
making our way back to our third and fourth period classes. During those classes, many great
things were happening around camp. The ranges were getting lit up by some sharpshooters, the
lake was getting fished, the trails were getting shredded by some mountain bikers, and Walker
F. was getting his basketball Bronze up at the Mark.
We headed back down to the Tuck for a great dinner of pork carnitas tacos, and then listened as
tonight’s tribal games were announced. The screams echoed in the dining hall as it was
announced that Junior and Intermediate Camp were playing Bandits Rancheros, and Senior
Camp was playing Great Escape. As the two groups headed on their ways to start another night
of intense competition, I headed down to the hostess office to let all of you know about this
amazing day that we have had here at Camp Timberlake.
Thanks for hanging out with me today, Timberlake, and until next time,
