Sunday Sunday Sunday!
Another incredible Sunday is in the books here at Camp Timberlake, and what a fun filled day it was! The boys started the day with an extra hour of sleep. As they rolled out of their bunks and made their way to the tuck, everyone’s favorite Sunday breakfast was prepared: warm cinnamon rolls, bagels with cream cheese, and plenty of chocolate milk to fuel the boys for their day. Following an enthusiastic morning yell and chapel lead by John and the staff, everyone scattered around camp for a Sunday built for adventure. Sundays give the boys a chance to rest, relax, and enjoy the rolling hills of camp with their friends, and enjoy camp’s favorite traditions.
Exciting and fun trips rolled out of camp, covering all of the adventure that Timberlake has to offer, with Liles F., Walker R., Charlie C., Powers T., Robert D., Abel F., and Thomas R., taking a Canoeing trip out to the emerald green waters of Lake James. Other guys such as Stewart M., Benton D., Tyler T., and Tommy W., went Fly Fishing to headwaters of Catawba, while Gus M., Cameron R., George S., Matty C., Gabriel R., Jack H., Grant B., Dean B., and Gage S. went to Grandmother on a rare Bouldering trip.
The morning was packed with activities all over camp. Some campers set their sights on competitions such as fortbuilding at the supply drop, frog-catching at Mossflower, and sand castle building at the beach, while some went fishing or tested their endurance running the crooked mile. Some of our competition winners include:
- Sunday at the Masters (Disc Golf Tournament): Beckett B. and Theo T., with runner-ups: Sumner D., and Chris J.
- Fort Building: Owen C., Jack C., Ford C., and Patrick H.
- Sand Castles: Kai J., and Marshall S. and Peter M
As competitions wrapped up, the campers headed back to the tuck once more, this time for some delicious chicken quesadillas. We also announced the winners of the daily cabin clean up competition…Big Slaty! Racking up the big score of a 9.75 Big slaty boys took home the W for today. Certainly the most anticipated announcement of the meal, however, was the winner of last night’s game of Mission Impossible. Drumroll please…Golden Eagles! Congrats to the Eagles and fear not Black Bears, redemption is just a few hours away.
After filling our bellies with Mexican food, the boys walked back to their cabins for a rest HOUR instead of a regular forty-five minutes. When the clock struck free time the campers burst out back into activities as many daily activities were opened up such as Archery, Riflery, Pickleball, and Basketball for free-shoots and free-plays all around. Trading Post wasn’t the only thing that was waiting for the junior camp down at the lake, as they had a free swim filled with a rope swing, high dive, climbing wall, and the blob. The winners of the Sunday pickleball tournament were Baine B and Stephen G and over at the mark, Baxter L, Fran M and David C took home the title in the 3 v 3 Basketball tournament.
As the afternoon came to a close, everyone gathered together for one of the best traditions of the summer: the Sunday cookout. Burgers, hot dogs, watermelon, cookies, and plenty of laughs made for another unforgettable meal shared with new and old friends alike. The evening was wrapped up with Vespers, where camp comes together for music, skits, and worship followed by a big game of Pirate Ball for the senior camp campers. It’s always a wonderful reminder of what makes Sundays at Timberlake so special, as it is a chance to rest, reflect, and prepare for another incredible (and sadly the last) week at camp. But you know what they say, you save the best for last.
