What is up Camp Timberlake!!!

We are wrapping up our first week of Session 2 with an amazing Sunday! 

Sundays at camp are so special and such a fun way to slow down and truly enjoy the splendor of God’s creation. 

This Sunday began with my favorite tradition, an extra hour of sleeping in! Campers then floated down to breakfast following the sweet smell of Sunday morning cinnamon rolls. We followed breakfast with a morning yell that could be heard on the moon led by our amazing group of CITS. 

We had a couple of awesome trips head out this morning including fly fishing which headed to the headwaters of the Linville river.  and amongst those fishers are Drew D, Braxton F, Brody R, Hayes D, and Christian M. Additionally, our talented climbers are going on a bouldering trip! Those climbers are Wynn A, Hayes A, Mason S, Arav S, Cooper W, and Sam C. 

As the day processed, the campers enjoyed a beautiful morning of shooting hoops, cooking it up at some pickleball, building forts, enjoying some relaxing times with friends, and so much more! The winners of our annual Sunday Disc golf tournament, Sunday at the Masters, were Bram O and Leo G. And the award for the best fort went to ‘6 men and a fort’. 

For lunch we dined on jambalaya and fried okra and got a special surprise of ice cream sundaes! Could Sunday get any better? It’s truly hard to imagine. We also announced the scores for cabin clean up with the mighty men of Bull Run coming out on top with a 9.75 out of 10. Way to go boys!. 

Going further into the day, the campers got to take some extra time to relax as they were able to enjoy some extra time during the best time…REST TIME!!!  As the campers got rested up to continue their Sweet Sunday, the amazing campers from the Merri-Mac archery team made their way to camp. After a great display of shooting by both sides, the men of Timberlake emerged as champions! During the archery tournament, the rest of the campers got to enjoy their time more with some delicious treats from the trade-post and even more awesome afternoon camp activities! The pickleball tournament was hotly contested and hugely popular but in the end Alston M and John M defeated Jake O and John W in the championship match to take home the pickleball crowd. The entire Camp Timberlake campers got a huge surprise of an awesome Free-Swim! Free Swim is such an awesome opportunity to either get to do the Blob, the High-Dive, the Rope-Swing, and some overall fun time in the water!

As we make our way to dinner, all the campers are excited and pumped to have a cookout style dinner that consists of some delicious burgers, hot dogs, kale salad, and much more! The dinner is always such a fan favorite that is impossible to pass up! After dinner, the campers made their way to the chapel where Vespers officially kicked off! We got to see some awesome skits made by the campers and staff! Luke H performed a monologue as he worked toward his gold in Improv class and Aidan P, Tristan D, Francesco P and Mick L had us all chuckling with their skit about the origins of the famous Cowboy Joe. There were so many laughs, cheering, and we can’t forget about jamming out to some awesome songs! It couldn’t have been more of an awesome time getting to see creative ideas and minds come together to make an amazing event for all the campers to enjoy!

After Vespers, we made our way to our evening Tribal Game! Tonight we played Battleball! Perhaps the single most popular activity at camp, Battleball is always a huge hit. Tune in tomorrow to see which tribe came out on top. 

After a day filled with fun times and relaxation, the campers made their way back to their cabins to conclude their Sweet Sunday!
