A blanket of mist hovered over Lake Newcombe as Camp Timberlake campers rolled out of their bunks and shuffled down to breakfast. The air was cool, the sky was clear, the biscuits were warm, and the vibes… immaculate. It was shaping up to be another epic day here at Timberlake.

We tucked into a delicious breakfast of hashbrowns, eggs, bacon and biscuits. A meal that was sure to prepare us for all the adventures ahead. Once we had fueled up, and celebrated our brotherhood with the morning yell, we made our way to chapel. It was there that Greybeard counselor, Archie D, told us a true story about how we as humans are broken, stranded, and in need of rescuing. A great reminder of how God rescues us, even when it feels like we’re stranded all alone in the dark, on a broken down boat. After singing some songs and hearing Archie’s message, it was off to another day of competition in the race for the coveted GOLDEN PLUNGER. Who will have the cleanest cabin of session 2!? Stay tuned for updates…

It was a busy day in and out of camp. We had a trio of trips going out today for some epic adventures! Heading to the North Toe for a day of fly fishing we had Davis T, Ryder S, Calvin W, Bram O, Jake W, and Turner M

The rafters took off to the French Broad for a roller coaster of rapids. Finley S, Michael T, Elliot W, John L, Wade G, Liam L, Jack L, Jack G, Charlie C, Tristan D, Andrew M, and Aidan P sent it successfully and returned with big grins on their faces.

Also on the water, we had kayakers Graham W, Kirk F, Teddy M, Will M, Owen T, John David A, Giancarlo Z, and Carson K. They had a blast gettin’ steezy out on the Tuckaseegee.

Back on property we had a beautiful morning of activities. Campers were trying new things, developing new skills, honing their crafts, and having adventures around every corner. Before we knew it, it was time for lunch!

On the menu for lunch today we had CHICKEN PATTIES! A personal favorite of mine and well enjoyed by all. Having filled our bellies, it was time to hear about who won cabin clean up that morning, and of course, who won evening activity last night! It was a tight competition, but Tiger Tooth edged out all competitors with a dazzling 9.75. It was shining like the top of the Chrysler building! John tried to send us to rest time but luckily the Sultan of Fun jumped up to make sure we heard the big one. The winner of Ultimate Basketball was.. drumroll please…… THE GOLDEN EAGLES! We couldn’t wait to sing our tribal chant and hymn.

Having celebrated accordingly, it was now really time for the best time. Rest time!

Before we knew it, the bugle sounded and it was off to Trade Post/free time! We enjoyed some snacks, gatorade, and a Junior Camp free swim! Campers swam, card games and guitar jam sessions arose in the chapel, and a good time was had by all.

Having enjoyed some unstructured time, the afternoon activities got underway and the adventures continued. They say time flies when you’re having fun, and it sure did! Our stomachs knew what time it was though, and we couldn’t wait to get into some dinner.

We enjoyed a delicious meal of chicken alfredo, mixed veggies, and tasty cheesy biscuits. After dinner, staff members Seth B, and Scottie H informed us that tonight campers Brady R, Matthew H, Giancarlos Z, David Allen B, Aiden M, Cam M, and Alexis B would be attempting their Solo 13s tonight! A night all by themselves under the stars, and a mark awaiting them upon completion. The adventure truly never stops here at Camp. Dinner concluded and  it wouldn’t be long until what is my favorite part of the day… The evening activity! Who would earn a crucial point towards the banner in an epic game of Search and Destroy?! Tune in tomorrow to hear who took the W!

Having given it their all, campers returned to their cabins to get clean and rest up for what will surely be another epic day of adventures with friends. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow has in store! Tune in tomorrow to hear more about all the fun going down here at Camp Timberlake!

Until next time,
