Another full fun day at Timberlake
Another full fun day at Timberlake
It was another fun day here at Camp Timberlake! Today brought us warm, sunny weather and uninterrupted fun, and we had a spectacular 3rd full day here at camp.
We started the day off with a very light rain on our way to breakfast, where we would await pancakes and sausages. While everyone enjoyed the delicious, hot food, it wouldn’t be a proper camp breakfast without the campers being eager to get a bowl of lucky charms or cinnamon toast crunch.
After breakfast, we put our benches up on top of the table and headed outside for the morning yell, lead by Matt Witte. The morning yell woke us up for chapel. We sang popular songs among camp such as “Nothing but the Blood of Jesus” and “I’ve Got a River of Life.” To wrap chapel up, Ben Huff, one of our counselors, told a funny true story and left us with a great message to take with us on our way to cabin cleanup.
Cabin cleanup is a huge deal here at camp. Every year, all the cabins work to be the cleanest cabin out of the whole camp, and win the golden plunger, the ultimate prize here at camp. The second youngest cabin, Finch’s Landing, received a perfect 10 today! Turtleback was not far behind them, scoring a 9.75 to finish in second place.
We had 3 trips go out today: Thomas C, Teddy M, Santiago M, Marco L, Will M, John David A and Braxton F got to go kayaking on the Tuckasegee River. Hayes A, Billy Luke I, Silas S, Jack B, Nolan Y and Bram O went on a bouldering trip to Beacon Heights, and the mighty men of Greybeard (Charlie A, James A, Harrison D, Carson K, Jackson M, Gary M, Giancarlo Z) took their cabin trip to do volunteer work and have a fun adventure in the afternoon.
It was still a day of fun here at camp. Today was the first day of activities where campers would start working on bars and learning new skills in their activities, as well as making progress on their existing skills in activities. For lunch we had grilled cheese, curly fries, tomato soup, and oranges, which were also very good. It was also a big BIRTHDAY for our very own Luke H. We also announced the winners of last night’s Battleball games. The Golden Eagles won for junior and intermediate camp while the Black Bears took the senior camp victory.
Today brought us a handful of achievements. George D B got the first silver bar in Riflery for second session, Vincent P got a bullseye in Archery, Emerson F succesfully did his first roll on the lake in Kayaking, Braxton F got his combat roll on the Kayaking trip, and our Mountain Biking class saw a fawn take a lap around our pump track!
We wrapped up our day with dinner, where we were served orange chicken, rice, and vegetables. Mini hot dogs were a popular second option served at our neighborhood table, and we had brownie delight for dessert.
For the evening, senior camp enjoyed their time together at cabin night, and junior and intermediate camp played Bandits Rancheros. Big Slaty enjoyed a steak dinner, Little Slaty played Survivor, Stompers Knob had fun at a giant Slip n Slide, The Pineys played some games up at the Mark, and Tomahawk had a free swim and raided the trading post. How fun!
As the day comes to a close, the boys head back to their cabins to shower and get ready for a restful night’s sleep. We had an amazing day and are stoked for tomorrow!
