An incredible Saturday is in the books here at Father Son Weekend! It’s hard to recount all that we packed into a picture perfect Saturday here in the mountains but we’re going to give it our best shot!

The day dawned bright, clear and beautiful here at camp as a bundled up group made their way down to breakfast. A spread of scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns, biscuits and gravy was the reward for the hungry and we scarfed it down. We then headed outside for a time honored tradition here at Timberlake, the Morning Yell. After raising our voices to the heavens we ascended the steps  for chapel. After singing a few of our favorite songs and hearing a true story it was time to start our morning activities.

We had a wide variety of activities open today for the guys to check out. Jay M and Banks P both landed beautiful fish our on the lake. Tripp R and Maclin R were tearing up on the pickleball courts, as were Stephen G and Armand R. Over at the ranges William G was filling up the scoresheet in Riflery, while Thomas K and Jameson S both had impressive showings in Archery. Down at Mossflower (our craft studio) Legos were a big hit and Creigh N built a particularly awesome sword. Next door in fall themed activity Luke C was fashioning a keeper of a pumpkin.

For lunch we decided to think outside the box and serve our delicious camp pizza. With Ceasar salad and grapes on the table as well as a yummy soup option everybody found something good to eat. Our meal was suddenly interrupted however by a visit from Rex and Dex Kwando. Brothers who love the octagon, pumping iron and the United States of America, Rex and Dex were trying to convince our boys to enroll in their 8 week training program. Before we had a chance to respond, however, who should enter the dining hall but Sir Earl Gray himself, all the way from merry old England. Sir Earl contended that we should instead opt in for his 8 week program, which centered on manners and etiquette, rather than martial arts and strength training. When a compromise couldn’t be made Dex challenged to a 1 v 1 race and, to the great joy of the crowd, emerged victorious! It made for an interesting day and I have to wonder if we’ll see those guys again.

We also announced the winners of last night’s tribal game of Battleball: The Golden Eagles! Fear not Black Bears, for redemption is just a few hours away.

After lunch the fun continued as free swim was available at beautiful Lake Newcomb. The sun was out and lots of the guys jumped in to enjoy the rope swing, high jump and blob. Blake B crushed it on the blob and Henry B excelled at the rope swing. We also had a trail ride for some intrepid mountain bikers and Connor K made it all the way to the very top of the climbing tower!

For dinner we enjoyed pork tacos with all the fixings followed by triple chocolate brownies for dessert. The sultan emerged once more to announce tonight’s tribal game: Sock War! If you’ve never played sock war before, picture a giant, capture the flag style game where instead of tagging your opponent, you throw a sock at them to get them out. The game was hotly contested and we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out which tribe claimed the victory. And what better way to finish a day at camp than with some s’mores by a campfire?

That’s all for today. Thanks again for tuning in and be sure to check back tomorrow to hear all about the epic conclusion to a fantastic weekend.
