Happy tropical Tuesday to all Camp Timberlake parents and faithful blog readers who celebrate! Today was an absolute whirlwind of action, majestic rain, and monumental achievements.

Today the boys proved that not even a little midday rain can stop the fun here in Marion, North Carolina!

We kicked things off this morning by following the heavenly aroma of French toast sticks and crispy bacon right into the dining hall. It was the absolute perfect fuel for a big day that started out as an absolute beauty! After filling our bellies, we screamed out a morning yell that echoed across the valley, headed into chapel for some awesome worship, and listened to a fantastic true story from Winston H.

Before our morning classes even kicked off, we sent two epic trips out into the beautiful Blue Ridge wilderness. Our intrepid day hikers: Ryan M., Parker C., Logan D., George Y., Pierce F., Dowell F., William S., and Crosby H. headed out to conquer the trails. Meanwhile, a powerhouse crew of climbers loaded up to scale some real rock, featuring: Duncan N., Arnold A., Henry S., Will M., Eli J., Theo K., Francesco P., Jim B., Hall W., and Fuller B. Both groups brought their A-Game for an awesome morning of adventure!

Morning Masterclasses & Massive Milestones

Our morning activity periods and free time were packed with guys absolutely shredding their goals and earning some of those coveted bars:

Swimming: Ford F. swam like an absolute fish and officially captured his GOLD bar! Legitimate legend status.

Climbing: Penn Charles del P. conquered the wall and secured his BRONZE bar!

Airsoft: Thomas C. and Patrick F. locked in their sights and took home their SILVER bars.

Basketball: During free time, Evan M. dominated the courts and unlocked his SILVER bar!

Then came the moment everyone waits for at lunch, the cabin clean-up announcement. The fight for the coveted golden plunger is getting fierce! Stomper’s Knob absolutely brought the house down today, “clean maxxing” their way to a flawless, perfect 10 out of 10! A massive shoutout also goes to the mighty men of Little Slaty, who earned a highly honorable mention with a spectacular 9.5.

Speaking of lunch, we dined on an absolute camp staple and crowd favorite: mini corn dogs and mac & cheese! The food was so good that counselor Wells F decided one lunch just wasn’t enough and officially ate lunch twice. We respect the dedication to calorie loading, Wells! We also got the exciting news from last night’s epic evening tribal game! the GOLDEN EAGLES swooped in and took a massive victory in junior and intermediate Sock Wars!

Archery: During free time, Blake P. pulled off an incredibly rare feat. He absolutely dialed it in from distance, hitting his first three 40-yard groupings in a row! Because he was so deadly accurate, he got to skip the final two entirely. Robin Hood would be proud!

Rain, Mud, and Mountain Biking

Right as afternoon activities rolled around, the heat broke as the skies opened up into an enjoyable afternoon shower! It completely cooled camp down and gave us a beautiful break from the summer sun. And if you think a little water dampens the Timberlake spirit, think again. We pivoted beautifully, the boys turned the gym into an electric indoor arena for some high-energy basketball, while others gathered on the porches and in the Chapel for epic card game tournaments, trading jokes and enjoying some awesome brotherhood.

But the real award for pure toughness goes to our mountain biking class. Rain? Mud? Slick trails? No problem. They looked the rain right in the eye and kept riding. In fact, Harris N. and Grant C. absolutely styled it today, conquering the largest drop progression we have at camp despite the sloppy conditions! The rest of the legendary MTB class wasn’t far behind, working hard on their rock rolling and dialing in their own drop progressions. Absolute rockstars.

A Packed Dinner Lineup & Evening Action

We dried off just in time for a spectacular Hawaiian BBQ meatball dinner complete with carrots and delicious cornbread. Dinner announcements tonight were absolute bangers:

Joey B. shared his highly anticipated Top 10 list of the best chairs. (A hotly debated topic in the dining hall, to say the least!)

We got a thrilling update on the World Cup standings.

Richard B. sent shockwaves through camp by announcing the very first disc golf trip of the summer!

And finally… the Assistant to the Sultan of Fun himself took the mic to announce that tonight’s evening activity is none other than… SEARCH AND DESTROY!!!!!!

Yells of pure excitement filled the entire valley. The boys are out there running hard right now, and you’ll have to tune in tomorrow to find out which tribe reigns supreme!

Until next time,
